Have a Nice Death offers significant cognitive benefits through its challenging hack-and-slash combat and roguelike structure. Players will constantly engage in strategic thinking, problem-solving, and adaptive challenge as they navigate procedurally-generated levels, choose upgrades, and learn enemy patterns. The 'performance review' after each run fosters learning transfer, encouraging players to refine their approach and skills with each attempt. Motor skills, particularly hand-eye coordination and reaction time, are also heavily developed due to the fast-paced action.

While free from monetization and social risks, Have a Nice Death's roguelike design incorporates elements of dopamine manipulation. The 'performance review' system provides variable rewards, and the inherent loss aversion of roguelikes can create a strong drive for 'just one more run.' The continuous loop of overcoming bosses 'over and over' combined with escalating commitment through upgrades could lead to extended play sessions, even though natural stopping points exist after each run. The 'Curse' system also introduces a risk/reward dynamic that could be frustrating for some players.
