Armies of Exigo is a real-time strategy game that challenges players with managing resources, building bases, and commanding armies on two fronts: above and below ground. This unique mechanic enhances strategic thinking, spatial awareness, and problem-solving skills as players must constantly adapt to threats from unexpected areas. The game requires critical thinking to make tactical decisions and memory to keep track of units and resources across both maps. While not focused on creativity, players can devise unique strategies and base layouts. The reading and math skills are moderately engaged through in-game text and resource management. Learning transfer is present as players apply learned strategies to new scenarios, and the adaptive challenge comes from the AI opponents and the dual-map system.

Armies of Exigo, like many competitive strategy games, can have elements of competitive toxicity. While there are no direct monetization risks, the game could subtly encourage extended play through escalating commitment to campaign progress. The violence content is typical for an RTS game, featuring combat between fictional creatures and soldiers, but without excessive gore or realistic depictions. There is no stranger chat or social obligation beyond potential multiplayer competition.
